Connected sofa

Taken off an apartment in Athens, I just loved the idea of how the designer has managed to create a cozy space even with a moleculed sofa split into so many smaller segments.

Omnia bakery- Newyork

Antonio Di Oronzo, principal of bluarch architecture + interiors + lighting, designed the interior of the Omonia Bakery in New York City.


 

Description from the designer:

This bakery is a brand new project for the family that behind the renowned Omonia brand famous for its Greek pastries. It sells pastries and breads prepared on premises in the see-through kitchen.
The design of this store celebrates indulgence… the suspension of one’s everyday grind through the consumption of a sweet delight. The space is soft and warm… sexy and decadent… as chocolate.
Much like the physiognomy of a pastry, this design wants to offer the exciting anticipation of a pastry in-fieri… the liquid concoction, the minced ingredients…  The space shifts organically with the narrative of flavors as patrons taste the succulent delicacies.
The main feature of the 1,000SF interior space is a fluid surface [clad with ¼” chocolate brown Bisazza tiles] which covers the ceiling and the side walls to different heights. This surface warps in bubbles and negotiates a system of 6-inch tubular incandescent light bulbs… and an arrangement of red cedar wood spheres. The epoxy flooring continues to the walls via filleted corners. A shelf and LED strips navigate the transition with the chocolate surface.
The kitchen is exhibited to the public, as it sits simply within a tempered glass box…Therefore, the exquisite level of craftsmanship of the project [with its unforgiving alignments and complex details] is paralleled with the refined artisanship of Omonia’s pastries.

Aura Spa by Khosala Architects

The Park Hotel’s latest property in Hyderabad has a central theme of a contemporary palace and several designers from across the world were commissioned to design its varied spaces using the erstwhile Nizam of Hyderabad’s jewels as inspiration.

Khosla Associates were commissioned to design the Hotel’s Spa “Aura” .
 

A particularly uninspiring space devoid of natural light and ventilation in the basement of the hotel was converted by Khosla Associates into a sparkling environment  ? inspired by the sheen, transparency, and whiteness of the Golconda Diamond.
The entrance curved corridor walls of the Spa were built out of   edge polished vertically stacked glass, leading  to  a  circular reception  area  with  a  fluid reception  counter  and  relaxed  customer  seating  sheathed in  moulded  white  resin.  A  wooden  staircase  from  the  pool  level  also  descends  into  the  central  womb  like  reception  zone.  The stacked glass walls glow from within with LED light giving the surrounding spaces a feeling of lightness.
Surrounding  this  sparkling  central  core  on  the  north  are  the  spacious  Male  and  Female  wet  areas  with  locker  facilities,  change  rooms  and  a  large  Jacuzzi  and  Lanconium.  On  the  south  is  a  Gym  and  a  Salon.
Further  west  from  the  reception  is  a spacious transitionary  area leading  gently  to  a  sensuous  curved  relaxation  area  and  a  series  of  well  appointed  therapy  rooms  and  suites. The minimalist transition areas in the Spa are peppered with carefully chosen pieces of mirrored organic sculpture by French artist Yahel Chirinian. The reflection of spot lights on these mirrored form deflects onto wall, floor and ceiling surfaces giving an etherial feel to the space.
In  the  circular relaxation  area  comfortable  loungers  are  divided  by  sheer  white  curtains  bathed  in  preprogrammed  washes  of  LED  light. Reflecting  VIBGYOR  colours,  the  sheer  fabric  assists  in  Chromotherapy.







The  entrance  wall  and  doors  of  the  treatment  rooms  are  clad  in  an  embossed  silver  foil,  and  the  curved  walls  of  treatment  rooms  in  a padded  diamond  shaped  pearl  white  fabric,  adding  to  the  feeling  of  luxury  within  the  space. The futuristic rooms are contrasted with period chairs lending to the space a hint of nostalgia. The circular bathroom capsules are clad with delicate pearl white glass mosaic tiles. Curved white day beds in the suites are accented by mirrored zari work cushions.
The  material  pallette  plays  on  varied  tones  of  white  to  enhance  the  feeling  of  openness,  and  built  in  washes  of  light  in  coves,  on  fabric,  textured  paint  and  moulded  white  resin  uplift  the  space  further.  Curved  walls  seamlessly  flow  into  one  another  and  soothe  stressed  minds.
Elements  like  the  Embossed  silver  foil  wall,  the  eclectic  period  chairs  in  the  treatment  rooms  and  the  padded  diamond  shaped  fabric  as  uphostery  offset  the  otherwise  futurstic  interior,  subtly  echoing  Hyderabad’s  royal  past  in  a  city  moving  rapidly  into  the  future

Andrea Claire Studio is the natural outgrowth of Andrea Claire Lighting. An artisan and fabricator based in Williamsburg Brooklyn, Andrea has produced an extensive collection of handcrafted, custom-made, "green" lighting dating back to 2004.
CONSTANTIN, made its debut at the 2011 ICFF, and is the first of several innovative Andrea Claire Studio designs currently in development. Using a refined taxonomy of shapes, materials, and hanging systems, our design approach is collaborative: we create chandeliers, floor lamps, sconces, and table lighting of the exact size and finish to conform to your distinctive aesthetic sensibilities. Our proprietary forms of bamboo stretched over metal frames and armatures are available in brushed brass, polished nickel, and hand-rubbed bronze.
Andrea Claire Studio takes its inspiration from the artist's body of abstract paintings. Abstraction acts as a gauntlet, a challenge, a visual gambit that that challenges us to redefine and re-imagine space and its objects or expressions. Influenced by Isamu Noguchi, CONSTANTIN lifts these guiding principles off the canvas and advances them into a line of singular lighting concepts.
All pieces are sculptural, green, handmade and original, with tailor-tooled components deployed with an architect's attention to detail. (Claire also works as an architect.) Inquiries regarding customized design options are welcome

Lombard Street House

Mark Tracy describes the design as, "a clean, modern design with color and character to serve as a weekend getaway in the heart of San Francisco." This five-story townhouse on San Francisco's famed Lombard street, is designed level by level, each having it's own distinct feel. The fifth and top floor is a bright, artistic, modern design anchored by a custom HZL Henzel rug on metallic silver hardwood floors with direct views of Alcatraz and the bay. The fourth floor offers a sleek modern kitchen with Scavolini cabinets, beside a lounge with a fireplace surrounded by Italian red porcelain tile. Exposed concrete flooring extends from the kitchen and lounge to the dining area which sits beside a party terrace with views of the city.

The third floor hosts the master bedroom and bath, while the first and second floors open to a dance-club-like party area. The stand-out features include a steel catwalk with glass flooring, 160" retractable movie screen, bar with built-in 80's-style arcade game, RGB LED dance club lighting, and fifteen 60" squares of custom art and mirrors which float up the walls and ceiling, each back-lit with LED lighting.
