wo stamped wooden veneer sheets, mounted to a pattern which lends them torsion and dynamism, make up the shade of the Mikado lamp. The stamped wooden strips design in the air a shape charged with sensuality, as well as adding an overall lightness to the piece and creating interesting plays of light and shadow. The strips give the shade a volumetric richness that changes according to the viewing angle. Designed by Miguel Herranz in 2005 this family of lamps won the Design Plus prize in the 2006 edition of “Light and Building” in Frankfurt. Manufactured by LZF

Lapoma Lapera store by Jordivayreda, Empuriabrava
With the design of a spectacular central wardrobe Jordivayreda Projectteam united two existing shops to obtain a spatial unity. The study of the strong light intensity leaves them with a bi colour solution: black and white. To reflect the light with a white continuous pavement and controlling the reflection with the intention to illuiminate the space from the floor and that the white wooden lines on the ceiling act as a reflective screen

Brooks Avenue House by Bricault Design
.
The clients for this project needed more space to accommodate the needs of a growing family, but they were reluctant to leave their location in Venice – one of the few walkable neighborhoods in Los Angeles. The solution was to maintain and remodel their existing 2000 square foot home, while creating a 1700 square foot addition and courtyard on the rear lane side. With an ideal climate for much of the year, a primary design driver was to create a seamless connection between inside and outside, while eliminating the need for air conditioning To this end, a central sculptural staircase links the ground floor with the rooftop deck, while doubling as a chimney to draw cooling breezes through the house. On the main floor, a sequence of pivoting doors opens the house to the courtyard, while on the second floor, windows fold back and full-height exterior panels slide into walls. A system of cedar battens serve as a shading device along much of the addition.
The volume of the new master bedroom extends out from the second story, creating a carport below. Its exterior is clad with a living wall system on three sides, visually tying together the courtyard greenery with the planted roof. All landscaping is fed with a combination of captured rainwater and recycled domestic greywater. The roof’s softscape is divided between a highly productive vegetable garden and indigenous, low-maintenance grasses and shrubs. The roof also supports a solar panel array that is sufficient to meet household needs.
The house features a high-efficiency combination boiler, which supplies both radiant in-floor heating and domestic hot water. A hot water recirculation loop makes hot water available “on demand,” while reducing consumption. Other features include low-flush toilets and non-toxic, low-VOC finishes, which are used throughout the house.

Lighting : Brand van Egmund
Design label Brand van Egmond is the pioneer in Dutch haute couture lighting design. Architect William Brand and sculptor Annet van Egmond founded Brand van Egmond in 1989 with the sole intention to create art without restraints. Each bringing something different to the brand, the duo has transformed their design studio into an international trendsetter for creating innovative, independent designs.
‘Night Watch’
It’s modern, trendy and slightly minimalist in comparision to the rest of the brand van egmund collections. The designer’s tag line for the item is ‘Past, present and future dissolve into one glowing celebration’.
‘Flower Power’
The collection (which includes the lounge cube, above) is an intricate tangle of scrollwork, both dark and mysterious yet exquisite. The collection also includes some wonderful pieces of lighting that perfectly show how spiky, blackened metalwork can be simply stunning. The entire collection is of hand crafted sculptures of iron and steel combined with blackcrystals that fascinate and are strangely appealing.
‘Beautiful Stranger’
‘This chair is your archetype beautiful stranger, there is more than meets the eye’.
The designers are particularly proud of the fact that when the chair sits at the table you can’t see the base from the back so it looks like a whole chair constructed from this weird, twisted string structure.
This other modern chandelier above is a signature piece for Brand van Egmond. It was first produced by the company back in 1988 and it has been popular with customers ever since then!
The main frame of the light is created from iron and the chandelier droplets are made from solid, rough, chunks of glass, so it would fit in well in an industrial style interior. Having said that it would look equally good in the hallway of the house or of course in the dining room.
Love them all!!!
